Christmas, Boxing Day: FG Declares December 25, 26 Public Holidays
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas Day and Boxing Day, respectively.
The government also announced Wednesday, January 1, 2026, as a public holiday for the celebration of the New Year.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In the statement, the minister urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, describing the festive season as a time for unity and sober reflection.
Tunji-Ojo further called on Nigerians, irrespective of religion, ethnicity or political affiliation, to use the Christmas and New Year celebrations as an opportunity to pray for peace, improved security and national development.
He reassured citizens of the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful festive season across the country.
