COAS Shaibu rallies troops for decisive offensive against Boko Haram, ISWAP
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of Operation HADIN KAI to brace for a decisive phase in the military’s counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East, declaring it a critical juncture in the fight against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Addressing soldiers in Maiduguri on Friday, Gen. Shaibu described the upcoming offensive as a “make-or-break” moment in Nigeria’s long-standing battle against terrorism. He emphasized that the time had come for the armed forces to deliver a final, crushing blow to insurgent elements destabilizing the region.
“You have been training to defeat the terrorists disturbing the North-East. This time, you are going to do it differently,” Shaibu said. “All combat enablers have been provided. New platforms have been introduced—all to ensure that you succeed.”

The army chief underscored the importance of the current generation of soldiers in achieving lasting peace, urging them to rise above the legacy of past missions and secure a definitive victory.
“The responsibility of ending this menace lies squarely on your shoulders,” he told the troops, his message resonating with urgency and resolve.
Despite sustained military pressure, the North-East has seen a troubling resurgence of insurgent activity, with remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP reportedly regrouping around the Lake Chad basin, exploiting porous borders and challenging terrain.
Shaibu’s visit comes amid renewed efforts by the Nigerian Army to recalibrate its strategy and reinforce frontline operations with enhanced equipment and tactical support. The next phase of Operation HADIN KAI is expected to intensify military engagement in insurgent strongholds.
