Pretty Mike, associate granted ₦50m bail over drug charges

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted bail in the sum of ₦50 million each to Lagos socialite Mike Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, and his associate, Joachim Hillary, following their arraignment on drug-related charges.

The duo appeared before Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa on Thursday after being charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on a three-count indictment. The charges include conspiracy, unlawful possession of narcotics, and permitting the use of a premises for illicit drug activities.

According to the NDLEA, the alleged offences occurred on or around October 26, 2025, at a nightclub located on Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. The prosecution, led by Buhari Abdullahi, claimed that Hillary was found in possession of 200 grams of cannabis without lawful authorization, while Pretty Mike was accused of allowing drug-related activities at his club.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Their counsel, Dr. B.S. Awosika (SAN), urged the court to grant bail on liberal terms, citing the defendants’ clean criminal records and their willingness to stand trial. However, the prosecution opposed the application, arguing that the gravity of the offences warranted stricter consideration.

In his ruling, Justice Lewis-Allagoa held that the prosecution failed to present compelling reasons to deny bail. He granted bail to each defendant in the sum of ₦50 million, with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to submit affidavits of means.

Pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions, the judge released the defendants to their lawyer. The matter was adjourned to January 14, 2026, for commencement of trial.
