Controversy over reported killing of Ogun old woman that transformed from bird
An elderly woman, Kehinde Ojo, tragically lost her life on Tuesday in the Oke-Ijeun area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, after being accused of witchcraft by a mob.
The brutal incident has sparked outrage and calls for an end to superstitious violence.
Videos circulating on social media show the frail woman lying helplessly in a pit while being subjected to horrific treatment. Witnesses claim she was accused of transforming from a bird into a human during the day.
According to reports, a prophetess from a local white garment church raised the alarm, alleging that the woman fell onto her church’s roof during prayers after changing from a bird into a human.
The prophetess, whose identity remains unknown, can be seen in a video questioning the elderly woman alongside other community members.
Despite efforts by personnel from the Ogun State Police Command, who rescued Ojo and rushed her to a hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries.

Kabir Kehinde, one of the deceased’s children, narrated the incident, blaming the prophetess and her son for his mother’s death.
“My mother was not a witch; she was wrongly accused and beaten to death by the prophetess,” he said. “She lost her way while visiting my brother, who lives behind the church, on Monday evening because of her sight problems.
“The prophetess and others beat her from Monday evening until Tuesday morning. Despite her repeated pleas of innocence, they kept attacking her. My mother was still bleeding from her injuries when we buried her. We have reported the case to the police, and the prophetess has been arrested.”
Efforts to contact the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, for updates were unsuccessful.
But the Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) says no human being turns into a bird, snake, or cat as popularly believed.
It said the statement became necessary following a ‘video‘ being circulated on the internet of an elderly and mentally challenged woman in the Ago/Egun Isabo area in Ogun State.
The footage that one Teniola shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 21, 2025, states: Full video of a Flying Bird that turns to (a) human being in Abeokuta”.
The woman was sitting on the ground, surrounded by a mob.
