Court Approves Yahaya Bello’s Travel to Mecca as EFCC Raises No Objection
A court in Nigeria has granted Governor Yahaya Bello permission to travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, for the Ramadan pilgrimage, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raising no objection to the request.
The approval follows a formal application by Governor Bello, citing religious obligations and the desire to perform the Umrah pilgrimage during the holy month of Ramadan. The EFCC, which had ongoing investigations in which Bello’s name was mentioned, reportedly confirmed that the travel would not interfere with any legal proceedings or obligations.

The court’s decision allows Governor Bello to proceed with his spiritual journey while maintaining compliance with all legal directives. Legal experts note that the EFCC’s lack of objection indicates that the governor’s travel is not expected to hinder investigations, and any subsequent proceedings can continue upon his return.
Governor Bello, who governs Kogi State, is expected to spend the duration of the pilgrimage engaging in spiritual activities and observing the rituals associated with Ramadan. Political observers have described the court’s approval as a balance between religious rights and legal oversight.
