How Diezani Allegedly Lavished Over N4bn in London Luxury Store

Investigations into former Nigerian Petroleum Minister Diezani Alison-Madueke reveal that she allegedly spent more than N4 billion on luxury goods in London during her tenure, raising serious concerns over misuse of public funds and corruption. The reported spending spree included designer clothing, handbags, watches, jewelry, and other high-end items from some of the world’s most exclusive retail stores.

According to court documents and investigative reports, the alleged purchases were made between 2013 and 2015, with funds reportedly traced to contracts and allocations from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Luxury retailers reportedly facilitated bulk purchases, some of which were shipped discreetly, prompting allegations of money laundering and abuse of office.

Diezani’s extravagant lifestyle abroad, which reportedly included similar shopping sprees in New York and Dubai, has come under intense scrutiny from both Nigerian and international authorities. Legal filings suggest that some individual items purchased were valued at millions of dollars, far exceeding what would be considered lawful personal income.

The allegations form part of ongoing corruption investigations and international asset recovery efforts, which aim to trace and reclaim funds allegedly misappropriated from public resources. Analysts say the case highlights persistent challenges in holding high-ranking officials accountable for financial misconduct in Nigeria’s oil sector.

The former minister has consistently denied wrongdoing, but the revelations of lavish spending abroad have fueled public debates about governance, accountability, and the impact of corruption on national development.
