Court jails tenant 12 years for assaulting landlord’s daughter in Delta
A Delta State High Court sitting in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, has sentenced a 41-year-old man, Ernest Okporu, to 12 years’ imprisonment for assaulting his landlord’s 11-year-old daughter.
The judgment was given on Thursday, February 5, 2026 by Justice S. I. Okeleke, who pronounced Okporu guilty and ordered that he should serve a 12-year jail term.
The incident, which happened in March 2024 at Osubi community in Okpe Local Government Area, led to Okporu’s prosecution under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law of Delta State.
According to court proceedings, the convict allegedly lured the minor into his apartment under the pretext of helping him retrieve a phone charger before carrying out the offence.
Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Human Rights, Kelvin Ejumudo, confirmed the conviction, noting that the victim is still receiving support following the traumatic experience.
The judgment adds to ongoing efforts by authorities and rights advocates in the state to enforce stricter penalties against sexual violence and protect vulnerable children.
