Court stops Soun of Ogbomoso from dissolving Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo leadership

A Federal High Court in Ibadan has issued an order restraining the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, from dissolving the executive leadership of the Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye or installing a caretaker committee pending the hearing of a substantive motion.

The ruling, delivered by Justice N. E. Maha, followed an ex parte application filed by the association’s acting president, Alhaji Yusuf Adetayo, alongside two members, Mr. Tolani Balogun and Alhaji Bukola Badmus, who dragged the monarch and his appointed acting president, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, to court.

The applicants argued that the Soun had no legal authority to sack the association’s executive or impose new leadership, stressing that the organisation operates independently under its own constitution as a Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registered body.

In September, Oba Olaoye had announced the dissolution of the association’s executive and appointed Prof. Ajiboye to head a caretaker committee until fresh elections were conducted — a move now halted by the court.

Justice Maha directed all parties to maintain the status quo ante pending the determination of the motion on notice filed on November 11, 2025. The court also ordered the applicants to serve the enrolled order, originating summons, and other necessary documents on the respondents within 48 hours.

The hearing of the motion seeking interlocutory injunctions has been fixed for December 1, 2025.

The Egbe Omo Ogbomoso Parapo Agbaaye — an umbrella body of Ogbomoso indigenes worldwide — recognises the Soun of Ogbomoso as life grand patron, alongside other traditional rulers including the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Aresadu of Iresaadu, and the Alajaawa of Ajaawa.
