Cybercrime Crackdown: Lagos Police Bust Nude Photo Blackmail Ring
The Lagos State Police Command has successfully dismantled a criminal syndicate involved in blackmailing victims with nude photos, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed on Thursday.
According to SP Abimbola Adebisi, the gang targeted unsuspecting individuals online, creating fake relationships and modelling opportunities on social media to trick victims into sharing explicit images. The syndicate then threatened to expose the photos publicly unless the victims paid large sums of money.
The investigation revealed that the criminals operated via messaging apps and social media platforms, using intimidation and coercion to pressure victims into compliance. In a coordinated operation, the police raided multiple locations across Lagos, arresting key members of the syndicate and confiscating laptops, mobile phones, and other devices containing evidence of the crimes.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to face charges of cybercrime, blackmail, and extortion, SP Abimbola Adebisi said.
“Members of the public are urged to exercise caution when interacting online, especially when sharing intimate photos or personal information with unverified contacts. Anyone approached with threats of blackmail should report immediately to law enforcement,” SP Abimbola Adebisi advised.
The Lagos Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting residents from online fraud and exploitation, assuring that investigations into criminal networks will continue to prevent further offenses.
This operation highlights the growing threat of cybercrime in Nigeria, particularly schemes targeting private and vulnerable individuals online, and reinforces the need for vigilance and timely reporting.
