Dangote Refinery Maintains Fuel Production Despite Maintenance on Key Units

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reaffirmed that it continues to produce petroleum products despite undergoing routine maintenance on some of its processing units, countering reports that it had shut down petrol production.

Reports earlier claimed that the refinery halted operations at its petrol unit for maintenance and upgrades beginning December 3. However, an official of the refinery had already clarified to TheCable that production remained ongoing.

In a statement released on Monday, the Dangote Refinery explained that maintenance activities on specific units, including the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) units, do not disrupt overall production due to the refinery’s advanced and integrated design.

“Due to the sophistication and integrated design of its processing units, routine maintenance on specific units does not interrupt overall production,” the statement said.

The refinery noted that it continues to produce Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel), and Jet A-1 fuel through other fully operational units such as the Naphtha Hydrotreater, CCR Reformer, and Hydrocracker.

Refinery Denies Shutdown Claims, Assures Fuel Availability

Dismissing claims of a shutdown, the refinery stated clearly that operations remain stable and uninterrupted.

“The refinery is not shutting down. Production remains ongoing, stable, and uninterrupted,” the statement read.

According to the refinery, it has the capacity to supply between 40 million and 50 million litres of PMS daily, subject only to market demand, through January and February.

On January 4, the refinery reportedly produced 50 million litres of petrol and evacuated 48 million litres through its gantry. Current stock levels, it added, are sufficient to cover over 20 days of Nigeria’s national fuel consumption.

From December 16, 2025, to date, daily petrol loading from the refinery’s gantry has ranged between 31 million and 48 million litres, in line with market demand.

The refinery stated that these figures are verifiable through depot loading records maintained by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Dangote Refinery Retains N699 Per Litre Petrol Price

The Dangote Refinery also confirmed that it continues to maintain an ex-gantry petrol price of N699 per litre, available to all marketers and bulk consumers without discrimination.

The company urged filling station operators, institutional consumers, and large-scale users to patronise locally refined petroleum products, noting that imported fuel is often more expensive and of uncertain quality.

“By sourcing PMS locally at N699 per litre, marketers are better positioned to pass on price relief to consumers, enhance market stability, conserve foreign exchange, and support Nigeria’s economic recovery and energy security,” the refinery said.

Refinery Seen as Stabilising Force in Nigeria’s Fuel Market

The refinery warned that without its operations, fuel importers would continue operating “without restraint,” potentially pushing petrol prices in Nigeria as high as N1,400 per litre.

According to the statement, the Dangote Refinery has become a key stabilising force in the downstream petroleum sector, helping to curb price volatility and protect consumers.
