Lookman Downplays AFCON 2025 Skirmish with Osimhen After Nigeria’s 4-0 Win Over Mozambique
Fès, Morocco – Ademola Lookman has sought to calm the controversy surrounding his brief on-field altercation with Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16.
The Super Eagles displayed an impressive attacking performance, with Osimhen scoring twice, and Lookman and Akor Adams contributing the other goals as Nigeria advanced to the quarter-finals.

The tense moment occurred in the second half when Osimhen appeared frustrated with Lookman after a missed chance, prompting a heated exchange between the forwards. Teammates quickly intervened, and Osimhen later signalled for a substitution, with Moses Simon taking his place.
Speaking after the match, Lookman dismissed the incident as minor, describing it as part of the game. “It’s just football. It’s always football. He is my brother,” Lookman said, emphasizing Osimhen’s status as the team’s leading striker.
With the quarter-final clash set against either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 10, Nigeria continues its pursuit of a fourth AFCON title.
