The Osun State Government has named internationally acclaimed Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the newly established Osun Sports Trust Fund. The appointment is part of a broader initiative aimed at revitalizing the state’s sports sector through sustainable financing and strategic partnerships.

Announcing the development, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi—who also serves as the Commissioner for Sports—emphasized the administration’s commitment to transforming Osun’s sports infrastructure. He highlighted the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which is being upgraded to meet Olympic standards. Once completed, the stadium is expected to host both national and international sporting events.

“The renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is progressing rapidly and will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi stated. “We are also in advanced stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.”

The Sports Trust Fund, chaired by Davido, is designed to attract support from philanthropists and stakeholders within and beyond Osun State. According to Adewusi, Davido accepted the role without hesitation, and his involvement is expected to significantly boost fundraising efforts and elevate the profile of sports in the region.

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration has positioned sports development as a key priority, aiming to create world-class facilities and opportunities for athletes across the state. The appointment of Davido, a global music icon with deep roots in Osun, marks a strategic move to blend celebrity influence with grassroots development.
