Declare state of emergency in Nigeria before Anambra – Peter Obi tackles Malami

Peter Obi, former Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rubbished the Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, Abubakar Malami, for saying the Federal Government may declare a state of emergency in Anambra State.

Obi said the Federal Government should first declare a State of emergency in Nigeria before taking such a step in Anambra State.

Malami had said the Federal Government was considering the move, ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State due the level of insecurity.

The AGF had made the remark after last week’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting.

However, Obi said Nigeria is facing more security challenges than Anambra State.

Speaking with Arise Television on Monday, the former Anambra State governor said: “Saying that they want to declare a state of emergency in Anambra because of insecurity should actually mean that they need to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria because if you want to declare a state of emergency in Anambra because of insecurity, you have to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria because of insecurity.”

The PDP chieftain called on the AGF to stop being partisan working in the discharge of his duties.

“Also, he is the Attorney General of the Federation and not the Attorney General of the Federal Government of PDP or the APC, but of the federation. There is a position that you would be in and you are now working for the government,” Obi said.
