Doctor Debunks ‘Detox Abroad’ Claims as Regina Daniels’ Negative Drug Test Fuels Online Debate
A Nigerian medical director, Dr. Chidi A. Okoroafor, has sharply criticised claims suggesting that Nollywood actress Regina Daniels recorded a negative drug test because she allegedly travelled abroad to “detoxify” or “flush out” drugs from her system.
Reacting on Facebook to public commentary surrounding Daniels’ recently released test result, Okoroafor described the detox narrative as medically inaccurate and rooted in ignorance. He stressed that substance use disorders cannot be erased by a short-term detox or a simple “flush,” noting that addiction treatment is complex and long-term.
“Once I hear ‘she has gone abroad to detoxify or flush out drugs before test,’ I mark myself and my family safe from generational ignorance,” the medical director wrote.

Using sarcasm to underscore his point, Okoroafor questioned why families continue to spend heavily on repeated rehabilitation if detoxification were as easy as being portrayed online. He argued that such narratives trivialise addiction and mislead the public about recovery processes.
The comments come amid sustained controversy following Regina Daniels’ announcement that she voluntarily undertook a comprehensive drug test which returned a negative result, prompting her to deny allegations of drug abuse and threaten legal action against those spreading the claims.
The issue has drawn renewed attention due to ongoing exchanges between Daniels and her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, who has publicly dismissed the test outcome as evidence only of temporary abstinence, not long-term recovery. Nwoko has insisted that earlier medical assessments conducted in Nigeria and South Africa indicating substance use remain valid and will be relied upon in court.
Medical experts and social commentators have since weighed in, cautioning against misinformation about drug testing, detoxification, and rehabilitation, and urging the public to rely on professional medical explanations rather than speculation driven by social media narratives.
