Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara
‘Dogs Bark When They Don’t Understand’ — Fubara Speaks on Rivers Crisis
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has broken his silence over the ongoing impeachment proceedings initiated against him by the Rivers State House of Assembly, saying his calm response to the political tension is rooted in faith and a commitment to peace.
Fubara spoke on Sunday during a church service marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at St Cyprian Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, where he urged residents to remain calm amid the escalating political crisis in Rivers State.
Explaining a recent comment attributed to him, the governor said his silence in the face of provocation was deliberate.
“I said something that dogs bark when they don’t understand. A lot of you don’t understand, and that’s the reason I don’t shout or complain. I know what I have, and what I have is supreme — God,” Fubara said.
He assured the people that peace would ultimately prevail in the state.
“I want everyone to relax. What is important is peace for this dear state, and we will get it by the special name of God,” he added.

The governor’s remarks came on the same day his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, dismissed calls for his sack, saying President Bola Tinubu reserves the exclusive right to determine whether he remains in office.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State House of Assembly raised alarm over what it described as “secret plots” to illegally procure court orders aimed at restraining the legislature from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities amid the impeachment process.
At the church service, the Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, commended residents for attending the remembrance event and urged them to maintain good conduct.
She echoed the message of the Dean of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Blessing Eyinda, who cautioned that every action would be remembered in time.
Odu appealed to Rivers people to continue supporting the government through prayers, describing spiritual backing as a key pillar sustaining the administration.
In a related development, Wike and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, avoided direct comments on the impeachment saga as political tension continued to mount.
Wike rounded off his “thank you” tour of the state’s 23 local government areas with a grand finale in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, his hometown.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the former governor reiterated his political stance.
“I am not a trader. I am not a pastor. I am not a public commentator or a journalist. I chose to be a politician. Choose what you want to be in life,” Wike said.
