DSS seals Plateau clinic over patient’s death

The Department of State Security (DSS) has sealed off a clinic in the Unguwan Rogo Community of Jos Northern Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This follows allegations of quackery and the reported death of a patient who underwent treatment at the facility.

A woman passed away in the clinic last week after undergoing surgery purportedly performed by Mr. Lukuma Abdul. This incident triggered widespread concern and speculation regarding the qualifications and medical practices of Abdul.

While Abdul refuted the allegations, claiming that the surgery did not result in the patient’s death, community sources revealed that complaints had been filed with the state ministry of health regarding suspected quackery at the clinic.

According to Sadis Muhammad Albasu, a member of the community, the clinic was sealed due to concerns over Abdul’s lack of proper medical credentials. Allegations suggest that Abdul, who is not a qualified medical doctor, has been performing surgical procedures without the necessary qualifications.

The intervention by the DSS came in response to community members’ complaints, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the need for regulatory action to address concerns regarding the clinic’s practices.

Kano bakers summoned over bread price hike

Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), summoned flour dealers from Singer Market and the chairman of the bakers’ association over what he described as an arbitrary bread price increase in the state.

He issued a stern warning to the state’s bakers against arbitrary bread price increases.

Rimin Gado reported that the commission has received numerous consumer complaints about high bread prices, despite a decrease in flour costs.

The price of flour, a key ingredient in bread production, has dropped to around N63,000 from N70,000.

At a press briefing in Kano, Rimin Gado stressed that the PCACC has a dual mandate; combating corruption and serving as an ombudsman. He stated that it will not remain passive in the face of unjustified price hikes on essential goods.

“We have been monitoring price increases for essential items and investigating whether these increases are justified. We are also identifying those responsible for any arbitrary price hikes,” Rimin Gado explained.

He assured that the commission will take necessary legal actions to address the rising cost of bread.
