Ekiti governor condemns clash between soldiers, traders, orders probe into Ado-Ekiti market shooting
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has condemned Tuesday’s violent confrontation between military officers and traders at the Fayose Market in Ado-Ekiti, which left three people with severe gunshot injuries.
The clash, which occurred at the popular technology market in the Ajilosun area, caused serious social disorder as a misunderstanding between a soldier and a trader escalated into a full-blown brawl. Three victims were rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for intensive treatment.
Speaking during a visit to the hospital on Wednesday, the governor—represented by Deputy Governor Monisade Afuye—expressed deep displeasure over the incident and vowed that those responsible would face justice.

Oyebanji called for stronger military–civilian relations, describing the repeated cases of brutality, confrontation and mistrust between uniformed personnel and civilians as unacceptable.
He appealed to soldiers to adopt professional conflict-handling approaches and avoid taking the law into their own hands, noting that the altercation could have been avoided if proper channels were followed.
The governor sympathised with the victims, promising that the government would foot their medical bills.
“Ekiti will not tolerate any form of oppression against our people or disrespect toward uniformed personnel. There must be balance,” Afuye said on the governor’s behalf.
She assured residents that a full investigation had begun and that anyone found guilty would face the law.
At the hospital, EKSUTH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Kayode Olabanji, said the victims were stabilising after bullets were removed and their wounds treated.
“There is no fear of death. They are responding well to treatment,” the CMD stated.
Chairman of Fayose Market, Adeleye Adekunle, also condemned the attack, saying the crisis could have been resolved peacefully but for the uncontrolled anger of the soldier involved. He welcomed the governor’s swift intervention and said a tripartite meeting among the government, military and traders would be held to resolve the issue.
