El-Rufai Accuses Tinubu of Illegal ₦100bn Monthly Withdrawals, Demands Impeachment
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused President Bola Tinubu of removing ₦100 billion monthly from the Federation Account without approval from the National Assembly, calling the action unconstitutional and grounds for impeachment.
Speaking on Arise TV, El-Rufai claimed that the alleged extra‑budgetary withdrawals have persisted for over 15 months, amounting to approximately ₦1.5 trillion. He argued that these deductions, reportedly intended for security funding, lack legislative oversight, violating Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution.
“El-Rufai emphasized that consistent and unauthorized deductions from public funds constitute serious breaches of the law and qualify as impeachable offences,” analysts said.

The allegations have intensified discussions on Nigeria’s fiscal transparency, especially regarding the management of funds allocated to tackle the country’s security challenges, including killings, kidnappings, and insurgency. Legal experts and civil society groups have urged a forensic audit of the Federation Account to determine the legality and allocation of these funds.
The Presidency has yet to respond to the allegations, which come amid growing political tensions, particularly as El-Rufai, once a close ally of Tinubu, has become increasingly critical since joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
If validated, these claims could not only expose executive financial misconduct but also intensify calls for National Assembly oversight and accountability, raising stakes for governance and political stability in Nigeria.
