Electricity Generation Improves as FG Fixes Lagos–Escravos Gas Infrastructure
The Federal Government has announced a noticeable improvement in electricity generation following the successful repair of the vandalised Lagos–Escravos gas supply infrastructure, raising hopes for improved power supply across Nigeria.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) disclosed that power generation recorded a significant boost after the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) completed repairs on the damaged pipeline, restoring gas supply to major thermal power plants nationwide.
The development comes amid widespread complaints by consumers over poor electricity supply in recent weeks.
In a statement, NISO said the restoration has improved gas availability to several power stations, describing the progress as a major step toward stabilising national power generation and strengthening grid reliability.
According to the operator, affected power plants have commenced gradual power offtake to ensure a smooth recovery and maintain the stability of both the gas network and the national electricity grid.

“This measured approach is aimed at preventing system stress and ensuring a reliable electricity supply for industries, businesses, and households,” NISO stated.
The agency also revealed that additional thermal power plants are on standby and ready for integration into the national grid once gas supply confirmation is received from their suppliers.
“These plants will be integrated to further strengthen generation capacity and reduce the risk of power outages,” the statement added.
NISO reaffirmed that it is working closely with key stakeholders, including power generation companies, gas suppliers, and regulatory bodies, to monitor operations and address emerging challenges in real time.
The organisation pledged to sustain the gains achieved and ensure a reliable, efficient, and resilient power system that supports Nigeria’s socio-economic development, while urging consumers to continue practising energy conservation as efforts to stabilise supply continue.
