Former Governor Samuel Ortom
Ex-Benue gov Ortom grilled by EFCC, released after 10 hours
Former Governor of Benue State Samuel Ortom was on Tuesday spent about 10 hours with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where he was grilled over allegations of funds misappropriation.
Ortom had driven to the EFCC zonal office in Makurdi, Benue State, at 10am to honour the invitation of the commission.
He was reportedly released around 8pm after facing a questioning session at the commission’s office.
One of his aides told journalists outside the office of the EFCC, “It’s a normal routine. And you don’t expect him to just be through in a jiffy – answering questions about his eight years administration will surely take some hours. But, he will soon be done.”
Ortom had said during his valedictory service session before leaving office that he was afraid of the EFCC and that he would be ready to honour it’s call.
He stressed that he had led the state in open and transparent manner.
PDP reacts
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has commended the former governor for voluntarily submitting himself to EFCC to answer questions about his eight years tenure.
Bemgba Iortyom, who is the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, stated this.
He said, “The former governor’s action also depicts him as a man of his words as it fulfils promises he made while in office that at the end of his tenure he will be willing to give an open account of all that he did.
