Ex-Nigerian Minister Faces Bribery, Corruption Trial in UK
Former Nigerian Petroleum Minister and first female OPEC president, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has appeared in London’s Southwark Crown Court as her multi-million-pound corruption trial officially began. The high-profile case, which has attracted international attention, centers on allegations of bribery and abuse of office during her tenure between 2010 and 2015 under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Alison-Madueke faces six criminal charges, including five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery, linked to oil and gas contracts awarded while she was in office. Prosecutors allege that she received cash payments, luxury vehicles, private jet flights, London properties, high-end shopping sprees, and school fees for her son as part of the corrupt deals. The former minister has denied all charges. She has been on bail in the UK pending trial, which is expected to last 10–12 weeks, and is being closely monitored by international anti-corruption agencies.
