Makinde Turned Opposition Voice After Tinubu Snub at Villa, Fayose Alleges
Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has claimed that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is positioning himself as a vocal opposition figure following an apparent cold reception by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Fayose made the remarks while discussing political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Fayose, Makinde’s criticisms of the Tinubu administration — including labelling it dictatorial — were triggered by frustration over the president’s response during a recent visit. He alleged that the Oyo governor praised former President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership style while openly highlighting the perceived shortcomings of the current administration.

Makinde has previously criticised President Tinubu, stating that it has become difficult to “speak truth to power” under the present government. Despite the tensions, Makinde has clarified that he remains loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has no intention of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). (telegraph.ng)
Fayose further suggested that Makinde’s positioning could influence Oyo State politics ahead of 2027, potentially affecting party alliances and electoral strategies. He warned APC leaders in the state to be cautious, suggesting that Makinde could back alternative candidates if he perceives the PDP as not adequately representing the people.
Political analysts say the exchange highlights rising tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape as key figures navigate alliances and opposition roles in preparation for the 2027 elections, with Makinde emerging as a potential vocal challenger to current administration policies.
