Femi Fani-Kayode
Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani‑Kayode has slammed Nigerians and others who celebrated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s fall during his official visit to Turkey, describing such reactions as unpatriotic and labeling the celebrants as enemies of Nigeria.
In a statement, Fani‑Kayode argued that a democratically elected president represents the sovereignty and unity of the nation, and any rejoicing over his misfortune is effectively a celebration of national instability. “When our president falls, symbolically the nation falls,” he said, adding that such actions show a desire for disruption and chaos in Nigeria.

The former minister referenced biblical passages, including Micah 7:8 and Proverbs 24:16, to stress that while leaders may stumble, they rise again. Fani‑Kayode noted that President Tinubu quickly recovered from the incident and proceeded to engage in bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, signing agreements aimed at boosting Nigeria’s security, trade, and economic growth.
Fani‑Kayode also accused some opposition figures of exploiting Nigeria’s insecurity challenges, such as abductions in several states, to undermine the government for political gain. He described attempts to frame insecurity as a religious issue—targeting Christians exclusively—as irresponsible, emphasizing that Muslims and all Nigerians are equally affected.
Calling for national unity and patriotism, the former minister urged citizens to support the government’s efforts in tackling insecurity and development challenges, warning that celebrating a leader’s misfortune is detrimental to the nation’s stability. He further expressed confidence that only God can prevent President Tinubu from being re-elected in 2027, highlighting his unwavering support for the president.
Fani‑Kayode’s comments come amid debates over political loyalty, national unity, and public discourse, with his remarks underscoring the need for responsible citizenship even amid political disagreements.
