FG announces 50% transport fare cut for travellers on interstate trips
Good news has come for Nigerian intending to travel to their country homes for the Christmas and new year festivities as the Federal Government has announced a 50 percent reduction in the transport fares.
This is coming a few days after the FG disclosed that free train ride would be available for train passengers for the yuletide movement.
Director of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Transportation, Olujimi Oyetomi, announced the 50 percent transport fare cut in a statement on Thursday.
He said the directive was given by President Bola Tinubu.
A similar gesture was given last year by the Federal Government for end of the year travellers a few months after the fuel subsidy removal.
The latest statement read, “To commence the 2024 Yuletide road transportation, passengers will board buses to their destinations for only 50% of fares, as declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
It the initiative was part of a broader effort to provide transportation palliative for Nigerians celebrating Christmas and new year.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Federal Government and key transport stakeholders involved to facilitate the process, the statement added.
The transport bodies involved are the National Union of Road Transport Workers, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, the Association of Luxury Bus Owners of Nigeria and God is Good Motors.
Under the arrangement, passengers departing from Abuja and Lagos (Oshodi) to various destinations across the country will pay only half the usual fare.
