Minister of Power, Adebayo Adekola Adelabu
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that the Federal Government has made reliable, accessible and sustainable electricity supply its top priority for 2026, as part of ongoing reforms in the power sector.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the minister’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, following Adelabu’s New Year message to Nigerians and residents of Oyo State.
According to the minister, the government’s strategy for 2026 will focus on continuity, renewed vigour, and deliberate efforts to strengthen the national grid, expand transmission infrastructure, and improve electricity delivery nationwide.
“Looking ahead, our focus remains unshakable: to deliver reliable, accessible and sustainable electricity to power our homes, industries and dreams,” Adelabu said.
He noted that collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) would be intensified to enhance service delivery and ensure that metering initiatives reach every community across the country.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Light Up Nigeria initiative, which targets industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to stimulate economic growth and job creation.
Adelabu said renewable energy development would remain a key pillar of the government’s agenda, with increased deployment of solar and hydropower solutions to serve underserved and rural communities.
Reflecting on the outgoing year, the minister described 2025 as a period of “focused groundwork and deliberate strides” in the power sector, despite lingering challenges.
He stated that significant progress was made in strengthening the national electricity grid and improving overall system stability, adding that the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), also known as the Siemens deal, had helped reduce frequent grid collapses recorded in previous years.
“As Phase One of the Presidential Power Initiative continues, we assure Nigerians of a strengthened grid that will make disturbances a thing of the past,” he said.
The minister thanked Nigerians for their resilience and support, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to achieving a robust and sustainable energy future.
“The journey ahead requires a united front,” Adelabu said, calling on federal and state governments, communities, the private sector, and citizens to support ongoing reforms.
He also urged Nigerians to protect power infrastructure and embrace energy-efficient practices, describing them as vital contributions to national development.
Extending New Year greetings to residents of Oyo State, the minister expressed optimism that 2026 would usher in measurable progress in the power sector.
“To my kinsmen and women in Oyo State, your unwavering support continues to fuel my dedication at the national level,” he said.
