NNPP Dissolves Kano Party Structures as Abba Yusuf Set to Join APC
The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dissolved all executive committees of the party in Kano State, amid growing speculation over the anticipated defection of Governor Abba Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was announced on Friday by the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Oladipo Johnson, who said the party would soon constitute a caretaker committee to manage its affairs in the state.
The development follows an escalating political crisis within the NNPP, particularly between the party’s National Leader and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Governor Yusuf, who is widely reported to be on the verge of joining the APC—a move said to be strongly opposed by Kwankwaso.
The Kano State chapter of the APC has also confirmed that Governor Abba Yusuf is expected to formally defect to the APC within days.

In his statement, Johnson stressed that the dissolution was carried out strictly in accordance with the NNPP constitution.
“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party, after an emergency meeting, has, in accordance with the constitution of the party, announced the dissolution of its Executive Committees at the State, Local Government, and Ward levels in Kano State,” he said.
He added that, in line with constitutional provisions, the NWC resolved to appoint caretaker committees to oversee party activities on an interim basis.
“Further instructions will be announced in due course,” Johnson noted.
The NNPP spokesman also expressed the party’s appreciation to all officials affected by the dissolution.
“The NWC thanked all those who held positions at the State, Local Government, and Ward structures of the party in Kano State and assured them of the party’s appreciation for their invaluable contributions,” he said.
