Finidi George
Finidi resigns as Super Eagles coach, says NFF, players didn’t support
Finidi George has resigned from his position as head coach of the Super Eagles.
He complained that he did not receive the expected support of his employers the Nigerian Football Federation.
He also faulted the commitment of the players to the cause of the national team.
His exit was confirmed by former Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, on his X account.
Ibitoye wrote: “News just in: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”
Finidi was only appointed on April 29, 2024, to replace Jose Peseiro, whose contract expired in February.
Newstrends recalls that the Nigeria Football Federation had earlier announced plan to appoint a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles, who would be Finidi George’s immediate boss.

Finidi spoke on his brief stay as Eagles coach when he along with NFF chieftains met with Sports Minister John Enoh in Abuja to review Super Eagles’ impressive 2026 World Cup campaign.
This was after they held South Africa to a 1-1 draw in Uyo before they were shocked by lowly Benin 2-1 in Abidjan.
Finidi reportedly used the poster boy of Nigeria football Victor Osimhen to drive home his point that the country’s top stars are not fully committed to the Super Eagles.
Osimhen was not available for the two all-important World Cup qualifiers with an official explanation that he was injured and sidelined for four weeks.
“Finidi said the Napoli striker could still have managed to play these matches,” SCORENigeria was told.
