Fire razes three-storey building in Lagos market, 86 traders affected
There was a fire outbreak in the popular Balogun Market, Lagos, on Monday destroying a three-storey building with goods worth millions of naira.
Eighty-six traders in the cosmetics and hair attachment section of the building were affected, according to a report by Vanguard.
No life was lost, the National Emergency Management Authority said.
Newstrends notes that the Balogun Market has gone up in flames a couple of times and market fire is almost a regular occurrence in Lagos.
The leadership of the Balogun Market attributed the cause of the Monday fire to clustered power-generating sets used by the traders.
The Iya Oloja, Hair Attachment and Cosmetics section, Alhaja Kemi Gbajumo, and Baba Oja of Breadfruit, Balogun Market, Prince Adewunmi Balogun, expressed sadness over the losses incurred by the traders.
South West Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said, “No one could give information on the exact cause of the fire. But the market leadership decried traders filling a building with too many power generators that the traders use.”
