Like Saudi, Sultan declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitr in Nigeria
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has declared Wednesday the April 10, 2024 as Eid-el-Fitr, the celebration to mark end of Ramadan fast.
He said on Monday night that the moon was not sighted; therefore Wednesday was declared ae first day of Shawwal 1445AH (Eid el Fitr Day).
Sultan made the statement shortly after receiving the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee.
The committee in its report stated that it had not received any report from various moonsighting committees across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday 8th April 2024 which was the 30th day of Ramadan 1445AH.
The statement read further, “Tuesday 9th April 2024 is the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1445AH.
“His eminence the Sultan after accepting the report, declared Wednesday 10th April 2024 as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH (Eid el Fitr Day) accordingly.”
