Five persons burnt to death in Enugu-Abakaliki expressway accident

A devastating motor accident along the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway has resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left seven others hospitalized.

The incident occurred at the G-Hostel axis when a fully-loaded mass transit bus traveling from Enugu collided with an obstacle in the middle of the night, causing the vehicle to crash and burst into flames.

Police Public Relations Officer in Ebonyi State, Mr. Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the details of the accident. He reported that those injured in the crash are currently receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary.

The obstacle that led to this tragic event was reportedly placed on the road due to ongoing rehabilitation work on sections of the highway that had suffered significant deterioration.
