Four suspected terrorists surrender, blame severe hunger

The ongoing fight against terrorism in the North-East has marked another victory as four Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have surrendered to combined troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, and local hunters in Kaga Local Government Area, Borno State, between June 3 and 5, 2024.

The suspected terrorists, identified as Baana Duguri, Momodu Fantami, Abubakar Isani, and Zainami Dauda, surrendered on the outskirts of Mainok in Kaga.

According to security analyst and counter insurgency expert, intelligence sources on Thursday said the terrorists relinquished their weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, 99 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, seven AK-47 magazines, two hand grenades, four Baofeng radios, two bandoliers, one bag, an ISWAP uniform, and two motorcycles.

The report also indicate that the terrorists, who were coming from the Damboa general area, cited severe hunger and hardship in their camp as the primary reasons for their decision to surrender. They expressed their unwillingness to continue their involvement in terrorist activities.

Just in: Three Fouani brothers kidnapped in Lagos have regained freedom – Police

The Lagos police command has said its operatives have rescued the three abducted Fouani brothers.

Recall that on June 14, three brothers, identified as Abbas Fouani, Youssef Fouani, and Amtal Fouani, were abducted around 6pm in Lagos.

Fouani Nigeria Ltd specialises in electronics and is the sole distributor of LG, Hisense, and Maxi products in Nigeria.

The three brothers were reportedly coming from their factory by boat when they were abducted.

On Monday, the police said it was working “tirelessly” to ensure that the victims were released.

It was learnt that the victims, including the boat driver and his assistant, were released Monday night in Orugbo Iddo.

According to TheCable, Benjamin Hundeyin, police spokesperson in the state, said the feat was achieved by the Lagos Marine police with support from the navy.

Hundeyin said the victims have since been taken to their residence.

“They were rescued late last night in Orugbo Iddo. Our marine police with the support of the Nigerian Navy brought them to shore,” Hundeyin said.

“Thereafter, our tactical team in the area took them home on Banana Island in the early hours of today.

“Five of them, three Lebanese, the boat captain and his assistant.”

Woman stabbed to death by 2 men in Abuja hotel

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday night at a hotel in the Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where a woman identified as Zara Tua was stabbed to death by two men who had checked into the hotel with her.

According to reports, an argument broke out between Zara and the men in their hotel room, leading to one of them stabbing her multiple times with a pair of scissors. A nearby resident, who wished to remain anonymous, informed our correspondent that Zara was a sex worker and had been stabbed in the stomach and other areas.

“We woke up this morning to the news of the death of a commercial sex worker in a hotel in Kubwa here. What we heard was that an argument occurred between her and the two men. She was stabbed by one of them in seven different places, including in her stomach,” the resident stated.

The police quickly responded to the scene, evacuated the body to the mortuary, and arrested two individuals in connection with the crime. FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh confirmed the arrests and provided details on the case.

“The FCT Police Command received a distress call from Galaxy Hotel Byazhin that one Maman Ajiya and Usman Lawal, both males of no known address, lodged in the hotel with one Zara Tua. A disagreement later ensued between the trio, which led to Zara Tua being stabbed with scissors,” Adeh explained.

Upon the police’s arrival, they found Ajiya severely beaten by an angry mob. The victim and the suspects were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where doctors confirmed Zara Tua dead.

Adeh assured that an investigation has commenced to uncover further details surrounding the incident.

Again, bandits attack Kaduna village, kill five

Gunmen suspected to be bandits wreaking havoc in Kaduna state have struck again killing at least five.

The deceased persons were killed on Monday when the armed non-state actors attacked Kajuru Local Government Area of the State.

A local, Luka Bulus, said the victims were killed while attending a village meeting at Ewehko community in Maro ward.

He disclosed that the bandits set some motorcycles of the victims ablaze during the attack at exactly 2:14 pm on Monday.

According to the source, the bodies of the victims were recovered from the scene of the incident.

“Another tragic incident occurred in our community today (Monday). In broad daylight, bandits launched a deadly assault on Ewehko, popularly known as Unguwar Paul, a village under Maro Ward in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

“The attack happened at about 2:14 pm on 17/06/2024. As of the time of this report, the bodies of four men and one woman have been discovered. Search efforts are ongoing in the surrounding bushes for others who may still be missing.” Daily Post quoted him as saying.

Also another resident of the community, Reuben Maro, said houses were also torched, including the motorcycles of the people killed, adding that the bandits attacked the innocent villagers in broad daylight.

He said about six people were killed.

As of the time of filing this report, the state government has not issued any statement, concerning the attack.
