Fresh Bandit Attack in Katsina Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured
Suspected bandits have killed two residents and injured several others during a fresh attack on a community in Katsina State, further highlighting the deepening insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West.
The attack occurred in the early hours of the day when armed men stormed the community, firing sporadically and causing residents to flee for safety. Local sources said the victims were caught off guard as the assailants moved through the area, shooting indiscriminately before escaping.
This latest incident adds to a growing list of banditry attacks in Katsina, coming barely days after similar assaults in nearby communities where villagers were killed, injured, or abducted. The renewed violence has heightened fear among residents, many of whom now avoid farms and local markets due to security concerns.

The attack has also reignited public debate over the effectiveness of ongoing peace deals with bandits, especially amid reports that the Katsina State Government is considering releasing repentant fighters as part of reconciliation efforts. Critics argue that such moves may embolden criminal groups, while supporters insist dialogue remains necessary to restore lasting peace.
In recent weeks, protests have erupted in parts of the state as communities demand stronger action from authorities to end persistent killings and kidnappings. Security analysts warn that without improved intelligence gathering, community policing, and sustained military operations, rural areas will remain vulnerable.
As residents mourn the latest victims, calls are growing for a more comprehensive and decisive response to the banditry crisis in Katsina and across the wider North-West region.
