Full List: 79 Nigerians on US Criminal Records Face Possible Deportation

United States immigration authorities have identified 79 Nigerians among foreign nationals on criminal records who may face deportation from the United States, following intensified enforcement actions against non-citizens convicted of criminal offences.

According to information released by US authorities, the affected individuals were flagged during a review of criminal databases and immigration records. Officials stressed that the action is part of broader efforts to strengthen immigration enforcement, border control, and public safety, adding that deportation proceedings are being carried out in line with US immigration laws.

The authorities noted that those listed are at different stages of the deportation process, stressing that removal remains subject to due process, including legal appeals and verification of immigration status. Some of the individuals may still challenge their deportation or seek relief under applicable US laws.

The development has drawn attention in Nigeria, with observers noting that while deportations linked to criminal convictions are not new, the scale of the latest list highlights growing scrutiny of foreign nationals with criminal records in the United States. Nigerian authorities are expected to liaise with their US counterparts to manage documentation and reintegration issues for those eventually deported.

US officials reiterated that the exercise is not targeted at any specific nationality, but rather focused on individuals who have violated American laws and no longer qualify to remain in the country.
