Global Internet Outage Hits X, News Sites as Cloudflare Suffers Major Service Disruption
A widespread outage on Tuesday disrupted access to multiple global websites, including social media platform X, after internet infrastructure provider Cloudflare suffered a major service degradation affecting millions of users worldwide.
In an update on its official service status page, Cloudflare confirmed it was investigating “an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers” and warned that several services might experience intermittent failures.
The company stated:
“Cloudflare is experiencing an internal service degradation. Some services may be intermittently impacted. We are focused on restoring service. We will update as we are able to remediate.”

It later added that services were beginning to recover, but users could still experience elevated error rates.
In Nigeria, major news platforms — including Vanguard — reported temporary downtime during the incident.
Cloudflare currently powers critical security and traffic services for nearly 20% of all global websites, including corporate platforms, government portals, and tech companies, making its outages highly disruptive.
Users worldwide also reported difficulties accessing ChatGPT, although OpenAI said it was reviewing the situation and did not directly attribute the disruption to Cloudflare.
The incident comes just weeks after a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage crippled more than 1,000 websites and apps, followed by a separate disruption on Microsoft Azure.
The full scale and cause of Tuesday’s Cloudflare outage are still being assessed.
