Grand Chief Imam of Oyoland Visits Ajayi Crowther University, Seeks Enhanced Welfare for Muslim Students

Oyo, Nigeria — The Grand Chief Imam of Oyoland, Sheikh Al-Imam Barrister Bilal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, paid a courtesy visit to Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), Oyo, on Monday, 12th January 2026, to discuss initiatives aimed at promoting religious harmony, student welfare, and inclusive campus development.

The Imam was warmly received by the university’s management team, including the Vice-Chancellor, Acting Registrar, University Librarian, and Public Relations Officer, among other principal officers.

During the engagement, Sheikh Akeugberu made two key appeals focused on enhancing the spiritual and intellectual well-being of Muslim students at ACU:

  1. Establishment of a mosque on campus to enable Muslim students to perform their five daily prayers in a conducive environment.
  2. Official approval for a Muslim Students’ Society, intended to foster moral, spiritual, and intellectual development, while promoting interfaith understanding, peaceful coexistence, and mutual respect among all students.

Speaking on behalf of the university, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the Grand Chief Imam for his fatherly concern and assured him that the requests would be formally submitted to the University Governing Council for consideration.

The visit highlighted the collaboration between religious leadership and educational institutions in nurturing a holistic, inclusive, and harmonious learning environment for students of all faiths at Ajayi Crowther University.
