Group accuses Philip Shaibu of plotting to destabilise Edo

A group, Edolites For Peace and Progress, has called for the arrest of Philip Shaibu, accusing him of engaging in unlawful impersonation of the Deputy Governor of Edo State.

Mr Shaibu resumed as the Deputy Governor of the State earlier today despite the ongoing legal contest regarding his reinstatement.

The group described Shaibu’s action as ”a clear case of impersonation, aimed at destabilizing the state ahead of the upcoming governorship election.”

In a statement sent to journalists and signed by its coordinator, Madam Adesua Odigie, the group said: ”Shaibu’s actions are not only illegal but represent a calculated effort to create chaos and confusion.

”The ongoing legal proceedings regarding Shaibu’s reinstatement are still unresolved, with the next court hearing scheduled for September 24, 2024.

”Shaibu’s current actions pose a threat to the stability of Edo State and the integrity of the forthcoming governorship election.

”The Edolites For Peace and Progress strongly condemns Shaibu’s actions and we call on security agencies to arrest him immediately to prevent further disruptions in the business of governance in our dear state.

”We call on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and hold Shaibu accountable for his actions.”

The group urged the people of Edo to remain vigilant and resist any attempts by Shaibu to plunge the state into chaos for personal gain.

Mr Odigie added that despite the provocation, the importance of unity in protecting the peace and stability of Edo state is sacrosanct.
