Gunmen have abducted the Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Muhammad Shehu.
He was abducted on his way from Keffi to Lafia, the state capital, while his police orderly was shot dead.
The kidnappers were said to have attacked him at Gudi station in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The gunmen were said to have mounted roadblocks along the Keffi-Akwanga road and in sighting the vehicle conveying the LG boss, they kept on shooting into the air, which compelled them to stop..
It was learnt that the police sergeant attached to the chairman had engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle but was overpowered.
The sergeant was a 400-level student of the Nasarawa State University keffi, studying sociology.
He had enrolled for the course while carrying out his duty as a policeman.
His corpse was recovered at about 7pm on Friday.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa state command, Mr Adesina Soyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the police had taken over the location of the attack in order to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.
“Police operatives are now in the area where they were kidnapped. We have taken over the environment and I can assure you that they would soon be rescued and the perpetrators of the act would not escape the wrath of the law,” he stated.
