Gunmen Overrun NSCDC Outpost in Niger, Steal Rifles, Officers Missing
Anxiety gripped residents of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on Tuesday after suspected bandits attacked a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) outpost at Ibrahim Leteh village along the Wawa–Lumma Road, leaving an unspecified number of officers unaccounted for.
The attackers reportedly stormed the outpost in large numbers at about 4am, opening heavy gunfire on the civil defence personnel on duty. The surprise assault forced some NSCDC officers to flee for safety, while the assailants reportedly carted away rifles belonging to the corps.
Security sources said the attackers overran the isolated post before escaping into the surrounding bush, taking advantage of the area’s difficult terrain and poor security coverage.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the NSCDC in Niger State, Abubakar Rabiu, said the command was aware of the report but could not immediately ascertain the full extent of the attack.
“We heard a similar report but investigation is still ongoing because until now we cannot establish the extent of what really happened. Our Commandant will speak after the investigation,” Rabiu stated.
The attack adds to growing concerns over banditry and insecurity in Niger State, particularly along the Wawa–Lumma axis, which has witnessed repeated attacks on communities and security formations in recent months.
Security agencies are said to be intensifying efforts to locate missing officers, recover the stolen weapons, and reinforce security around vulnerable areas as investigations continue.
