ICPC Detains Ex-NIMASA Boss Jamoh Over Alleged Financial Irregularities

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has detained former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, over alleged financial infractions linked to his tenure at the maritime agency.

Sources said Jamoh was taken into custody after honouring an invitation from the anti-graft agency, as investigators intensified a probe into suspected abuse of office, contract approvals, and handling of public funds during his period as NIMASA boss.

Although the ICPC has yet to issue a detailed public statement on the specific allegations, the investigation is understood to focus on procurement processes, contract awards, and compliance with financial regulations at the agency. Officials are reportedly examining documents and financial records connected to key transactions approved under Jamoh’s leadership.

The former NIMASA chief is said to be undergoing intensive interrogation, with the commission expected to decide on the next line of action upon conclusion of its preliminary findings. The ICPC has consistently maintained that its operations are aimed at promoting accountability, transparency, and integrity in public service.

Jamoh, who served as NIMASA Director-General until the end of his tenure, oversaw critical maritime safety, security, and regulatory operations in Nigeria’s shipping sector. His detention adds to a growing list of former public officials facing scrutiny by anti-corruption agencies over alleged misconduct while in office.

As investigations continue, developments from the ICPC are being closely monitored amid public interest in efforts to strengthen anti-corruption enforcement in Nigeria.
