Igboho Returns to Nigeria After Tinubu Administration Drops Wanted Tag

Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has officially returned to Nigeria following the removal of his name from the national wanted list by the Tinubu administration. His return marks the end of years in self‑exile after his activism and clashes with security agencies under the Buhari government.

Igboho landed in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Monday, where he paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja. His spokesman, Olayomi Koiki, confirmed that the federal government’s clearance was facilitated by interventions from prominent traditional rulers, including the Olubadan, the Ooni of Ife, and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, paving the way for his safe return.

The activist had previously fled Nigeria following a security raid on his residence in 2021, which resulted in casualties and arrests. He later spent time in Benin Republic while navigating legal battles over his alleged stockpiling of arms. His return is being hailed by supporters as a victory for Yoruba activism and a step toward reconciliation and national reintegration.

Observers note that Igboho’s homecoming could have political and social implications, particularly in the South-West, where his advocacy for security and self-determination has been both controversial and influential. Many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their reactions, ranging from jubilation to cautious optimism.
