Ex‑Buhari Minister Brands Gov Makinde ‘Ingrate’ Over Tinubu Criticism

A former Buhari administration minister, Adebayo Shittu, has described Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as an “ingrate” following the governor’s public criticism of the Tinubu administration. Makinde had questioned aspects of the current government’s policies and leadership style, sparking a heated reaction from political figures.

Shittu argued that Makinde benefited from federal support during his tenure and accused him of being ungrateful for the assistance that aided his political advancement. The former minister urged the governor to focus on state governance and service delivery in Oyo State, rather than issuing public rebukes of the federal government.

The minister also criticised Makinde’s budget decisions, including renovations at the Ibadan Government House, calling for prioritisation of essential public services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The remarks come amid growing political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, highlighting rising friction between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has also weighed in, accusing Makinde of acting as an “opposition mouthpiece” after reported disagreements with President Tinubu.

Political analysts suggest that Makinde’s statements reflect deeper opposition sentiment within the PDP and signal early positioning as parties prepare for the upcoming electoral contests. Makinde has yet to respond directly to the accusation or Fayose’s claims.
