Just in: Tinubu meets with Wike, Fubara, Odili in Aso Rock over Rivers crisis
President Bola Tinubu has finally intervened in the Rivers State crisis as he went into a closed door meeting with the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike.
A former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili, and some other stakeholders including traditional rulers from the state also attended the meeting held Monday evening at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Also at the meeting are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila and the Rivers State deputy governor.
The face-off over the control of the state between the governor and Wike has degenerated into a major crisis, with about eight commissioners loyal to the latter resigning from Fubara cabinet.
Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, had insisted he would not allow his political power and base rubbished by the incumbent governor.
The FCT minister was reportedly spoted at the State House along with leaders from Rivers State for the meeting with President Tinubu.
A total of 27 out of 32 members of the State House of Assembly, who are loyalists of the FCT minister, had defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
