Lagos Arewa community supports ban, prosecution of Okada riders

The Arewa community in Lagos State has said it supports the state government’s ban on Okada, urging its members to comply with the directive.
This was stated after a meeting of the group on Sunday where issues bordering on the Okada ban by the state government were discussed.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the group charged its members to avoid commuting in the Apapa, Surulere, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Eti-Osa, and Ikeja areas affected by the ban.
Part of the communiqué read, “We resolved today unanimously that all our members must comply with the provisions of the laws of Lagos State. We are law abiding citizens and will always continue to intimate all our members to continue to be law abiding and operate only within the ambits of the law. We support all measures taken by the Lagos State Government in its efforts toward protecting lives and property of all Lagosians.”
The community, however, pointed out that crimes associated with Okada were most times committed by foreigners.
“We condemn in totality the activities of all criminal elements, who are mostly foreigners from Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroon, and other neighbouring countries who have infiltrated the ranks of genuine riders, thereby perpetrating all forms of crime in Lagos State,” the statement added.

The deceased, according to the school’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, was playing a football match with his colleagues when the ball went into a compound.
However, the student, in the course of retrieving the ball, got electrocuted after touching a live wire on his way out.

“Report had it that they were playing football in the evening and the ball fell into a compound that was fenced and unknown to the young boy, he jumped into the fence because he was the one that played the ball into the compound and it was a rule that anybody who played the ball into the compound will go to retrieve it.
“In compliance with the rule, the boy went in there and we were told that that was the first time the boy would play with them. So, he went in there, retrieved the ball, and threw it out to his colleagues, but when he wanted to come out, he climbed the fence but unknowingly put his hand in a life wire and got electrocuted.
“It was when his colleagues felt he should have come back to the pitch that they went to check and saw that he was there shivering. They rushed to him, one of them picked a stick and removed the life wire from his hand, and rushed him to the facility at the Center for Distance Learning in the university.
“They said he was brought in dead and they took him to another hospital where they said the boy was already dead. The Director of the CDL, Professor Femi Koya had already contacted the parents to relate the unfortunate incident to them. We are sincerely sorry for what happened, and we pray that God Almighty will grant the parents, the university, his friends, and colleagues the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.” Olanrewaju said.

Tinubu not in France for medical attention – Presidency

Tinubu not in France for medical attention – Presidency
The presidency on Sunday refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu left the shores of the country to see doctors in France, insisting that it was a working visit.
During a guest appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, clarified that President Tinubu’s trip to France was for medical treatment, contrary to claims made by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria in ‘about a fortnight’, according to his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
He wrote, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fled Nigeria again to France for medical care, although some liars in his office claim he is on a working visit.

“It is troubling to know that approximately 200 million Nigerians may be repeatedly subjected to misinformation disseminated daily, and they, in turn, do nothing to liberate themselves.”
In reaction, Bwala defended his employer, saying there was no iota of truth in the claim.
He said, “The president’s trips to France are not related to medical. Have you not seen him receiving people? I mean, there has been information about him receiving people.
“The president did not go to see a doctor. He was on a working visit and we have been publishing his activities.”
