Lagos Assembly Spent ₦3.54bn on Generators in Q3 2025, Report Shows

The Lagos State House of Assembly spent ₦3.54 billion in the third quarter of 2025 on generator purchases and installations, according to the 2025 Q3 Budget Implementation Report. The funds were used to acquire and install 40 units of 50KVA generators to improve power supply at the Assembly complex.

The report indicates that the generator project had an initial allocation of ₦4.54 billion, with 78.2% of the funds utilised by Q3, leaving a balance of about ₦991 million for completion. Other projects such as visitors’ toilets construction and office complex enhancements also saw substantial implementation, while initiatives like purchase of properties and backup vehicles for lawmakers lagged behind.

The report has sparked discussions on budget priorities and public spending transparency, especially in light of Lagos State’s ₦3.4 trillion 2025 budget, which emphasised infrastructure, social services, and security. Critics have questioned whether such high expenditure on generators aligns with broader public needs, given slower implementation of other critical projects.

Revenue trends show that Lagos State continues to receive significant FAAC allocations, making the scrutiny of Assembly spending more relevant amid calls for fiscal accountability.
