Lagos commuter bus summersaults, LASTMA rescues 8 injured passengers
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued eight injured passengers involved in an accident at Hammadiya inward Abule-Egba.
The LASTMA General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA.
Bakare-Oki said the road traffic incident which involved a commercial long bus, popularly referred to as ‘Molue,’ at Hammadiya inward Abule-Egba, caused severe injuries and significant disruption to traffic.
“The accident was triggered when the vehicle, registered as KTU 801 XM, lost control at excessive speed, reportedly due to driver impatience.
“In an attempt to avoid colliding with another LT commercial bus and pedestrians awaiting transport at the roadside, the driver veered sharply, resulting in the bus crashing into the expressway median and overturning.
“Several passengers sustained injuries, while others escaped through the bus’s windows,” he said.

He said that officers from LASTMA promptly arrived at the scene, executed a well-coordinated and efficient rescue operation.
“Eight individuals, including five males and three females, suffered varying degrees of injuries. Among the injured was the bus driver, who sustained a fractured left arm.
“All victims were immediately handed over to LASAMBUS medical personnel and transported to the General Hospital at Ile-Epo for urgent medical attention,” he said.
Bakare-Oki said to ensure the free flow of traffic and public safety, LASTMA’s Response Unit was swiftly mobilised to oversee the removal of the overturned vehicle.

The Imo State Police Command has neutralized two suspected kidnappers and rescued four abducted victims during a Saturday operation in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area.
Acting on a distress call, police operatives trailed the kidnappers to their hideout, engaging them in a gunfight that led to the death of two suspects.
Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed in a statement on Sunday that an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 21 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition were recovered during the operation.
In a separate development in Ebonyi State, Adejobi confirmed the arrest of 17 suspected murderers on Friday as part of the ongoing crackdown on violent crimes.
He said the suspects were apprehended at Enohia Itim village in Afikpo LGA over the murder of one Uromchi Okorocha, who was accused by local youths of being involved in the killing of several individuals through alleged witchcraft and spiritual means.

The suspects, he said, mobilized, apprehended Uromchi, but instead of handing him over to legal authorities, they decided to take laws into their hands, becoming judge, jury and executioner.
The police at Uwanna Division mobilized tactical teams to the scene on a rescue mission but the mob had killed and burned Okorocha before the arrival of the operatives.
According to Adejobi, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, condemned the resort to jungle justice, urging citizens to refrain from taking laws into their hands.
He appealed to them to report suspected criminal activities to the nearest police division or formation around them for necessary action.
“The IGP once again reiterates the unwavering commitment of the Force to public safety and justice for victims of violent crimes. Citizens are encouraged to engage with security agencies, provide any information that may assist in the ultimate goal of creating an utopian society for all.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains ever committed to ensuring a safe environment for everyone,” he stated
Adejobi described the anti-kidnapping operation as a remarkable display of courage, reaffirming the police’ resolve to combat heinous crimes.
Adejobi reassured the public that efforts to rid the society of criminal elements would continue relentlessly, to ensure the safety and security of all residents.

A fresh graduate Khadijat Abdulraheem, 24, and a 20-year-old student of the University of Ilorin, Ayomide Morakinyo have been arrested on Sunday December 29, 2024 by NDLEA operatives at Tanke-University of Ilorin road, Oke Odo, Ilorin.
The arrest occurred based on credible intelligence that they were producing and selling drug-laced cupcakes to students in the community.
When their apartment was searched, 42 pieces of drugged cakes were recovered from them.

In another development, an ex-convict, Sodade Sunday Eniola, who was arrested by operatives of the Tincan Command of NDLEA in June, 2024, for drug trafficking, prosecuted and sentenced to four years in prison has been arrested again by officers of the MMIA Strategic Command of the Agency for passport racketeering.
When he was convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos on 14th June 2024, the trial judge gave him an option of paying N750,000 fine, which he paid and was let go.

Suspected terrorists have killed Alhaji Amadu Surajo, the Acting Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Katsina State, in a brutal attack on Mai Rana village, Kusada Local Government Area.
The assailants also took the lives of three others and injured several residents during the overnight raid.
According to reports, they abducted Surajo’s first and second wives along with his daughter, a university undergraduate. However, sources confirm that the first wife was later released.
Surajo, who previously served as MACBAN’s state secretary, became Acting Chairman following the mysterious disappearance of Munnir Lamido, the National Vice President of MACBAN and the Katsina State Chairman, in June 2023.

Lamido vanished while travelling to Kaduna State, and his vehicle and phones were later found near Maraban Jos. His disappearance remains unresolved.
Security operatives have been deployed to Kusada, which was previously considered a relatively peaceful area in Katsina, raising questions about whether the attack was more than an act of banditry.
The police command has yet to issue a statement on the incident. The slain MACBAN leader and the other victims will be buried according to Islamic rites, while injured survivors are receiving medical treatment.
