Lagos govt debunks viral ‘one chance kidnapping’ alert on Gbagada expressway
The Lagos State Government has dismissed a widely circulated message alleging rising cases of kidnapping and one chance incidents along the Gbagada Expressway, describing it as fake news and recycled misinformation.
The viral alert, shared across social media and messaging platforms, claimed that criminals were abducting commuters using commercial Danfo buses, warning residents to avoid the area, particularly at night. It further urged Lagosians to share the supposed security warning with family and friends.
According to the message, the alleged kidnappers were said to be targeting passengers through the notorious “one chance” tactic, using Danfo vehicles carrying about five individuals.

However, reacting to the claims, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, urged residents to disregard the message, stressing that the state had earlier debunked the same information.
“Good morning Lagos, please beware of this fake news in circulation again! We’ve addressed it in the past, but purveyors of fakery are not tired of recycling this rubbish. Kindly ignore it. Thank you,” Akosile posted on X on Friday.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring safety across the state and advised the public to rely on verified communication channels for accurate security updates.
The government emphasised that no credible report of kidnapping along the Gbagada axis had been received by the Lagos State Police Command, urging residents to avoid spreading panic.
