Lagos Lawmaker Dumps Labour Party, Joins ADC Ahead of 2027 Elections
A prominent Lagos State House of Assembly lawmaker has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling a growing opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 Nigerian general election.
Hon. Foluke Stella Osafile, representing Amuwo‑Odofin Constituency‑01 and serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Wealth Creation, confirmed her defection on Saturday. She stated that joining the ADC will better position her to serve her constituents and advance effective governance and development.

Osafile, first elected in 2023 on the Labour Party platform, had defeated an APC candidate and successfully defended her victory at the Court of Appeal after a brief challenge at the Election Petition Tribunal.
Her defection follows a wave of high-profile political moves to the ADC, including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, who left APGA to join the party. These shifts reflect a broader opposition consolidation strategy as parties prepare for the 2027 elections.
Political analysts say these defections are reshaping the Nigerian political landscape, with the ADC emerging as a key opposition platform attracting lawmakers, aspirants, and party officials seeking new alliances and stronger electoral influence.
With defections like Osafile’s, the ADC is gaining momentum and positioning itself as a significant player in the next general election, potentially altering the dynamics of party politics in Lagos State and nationwide.
