Lauretta Onochie slams Tinubu over nepotism, writes open letter to late Buhari
Former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie has publicly criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the current administration, accusing it of rewarding political “enemies” of the late President Muhammadu Buhari while sidelining loyalists. This marks the second time in 90 days that Onochie has written an open letter to her late former boss, lamenting the state of the nation under Tinubu.
Onochie, who served as Special Assistant on Digital and Social Media during Buhari’s tenure and later as Chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), expressed outrage at the recent ambassadorial nominations, alleging blatant regional bias in favour of the South-West. She highlighted the distribution of nominees:
In posts on her X account, Onochie described the nominations as “nepotism at its peak” and condemned the apparent compensation of individuals who allegedly opposed Buhari’s government.

In another post titled “To Former President Muhammadu Buhari,” Onochie lamented worsening hunger, insecurity, and poverty under Tinubu, saying Nigerians are openly stating that they “miss Buhari.” She praised Buhari’s discipline, modest lifestyle, and efforts at national unity, contrasting it with the perceived failings of the current administration.
Onochie also acknowledged that Buhari loyalists played a role in bringing Tinubu to power but vowed to work toward removing the administration in 2027 through her membership in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her latest criticism follows a similar letter three months ago, in which she accused Tinubu of turning the All Progressives Congress (APC) into a “private enterprise” and rewarding wrongdoing, further highlighting growing tensions within the ruling party as the 2027 elections approach.
