Lionel Messi Makes History With Second Straight MLS MVP as Inter Miami Clinches First Title
Lionel Messi has rewritten Major League Soccer history after securing his second consecutive MLS Most Valuable Player award, cementing his dominance in American football. The Inter Miami superstar, who inspired the club to its first MLS Cup title, becomes the first player to win back-to-back MVP honors and only the second to claim two MVP awards overall, following Preki’s wins in 1997 and 2003.
The 38-year-old Argentine icon delivered a sensational 2025 campaign, topping the league with 29 goals and 19 assists to earn the MLS Golden Boot. Messi also joined Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco as only the second player in league history to lead MLS in both goals and assists during the regular season.
