Man Attempts to Kill Daughter Before Taking Own Life in Ekiti
The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation following a tragic incident in Ise Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area, where a middle-aged man, identified only as Segun, reportedly attempted to kill his elder daughter before taking his own life.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, when Segun allegedly attacked his daughter, a girl said to be around 12 years old, and subsequently hanged himself on a tree behind their residence.
A local resident, Mr. Patrick Abayomi, said the scene attracted neighbours and residents who were shocked by the unfolding events.

“People around here said they were alerted by noise from the house early this morning, only to get there and see the lifeless body of the man dangling from the tree. They rushed the girl to a hospital in the area to save her life, and she is reportedly responding to treatment,” Abayomi said.
An anonymous source suggested the man may have been suffering from psychological distress, noting that the attack on his daughter may have triggered his actions. “We thank God the girl escaped being killed. Our prayer now is that she recovers from the injury and the trauma,” the source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer of Ekiti State, Superintendent Sunday Abutu, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have urged members of the public to allow the police to conduct their investigation and to avoid speculation about the incident.
The tragic case has raised concerns about domestic violence and mental health awareness in the state, highlighting the need for early intervention and community support systems.
